About
Dr Sanjiv Saigal is the Vice Chairman & Head, Hepatology and Liver Transplant at Max Hospital, Saket, Delhi. He is an INLAKS scholar and received training in Hepatology & Liver Transplantation at the King’s College Hospital, London. His areas of interest include Acute Liver Failure, ACLF, Alcoholic Liver Disease, Portal Hypertension, Hepatocellular carcinoma and Liver Transplantation. He has spearheaded the medical team of liver transplantation in India for 25 years, with an experience in over 6000 liver transplants. Dr. Saigal has over 185 publications and more than 400 presentations in National and International meetings. He has authored three books: ‘Recent Advances in Hepatology’ (Elsevier, 2015) and Handbook on Liver Emergencies (2023) and Fundamentals of Transplant Hepatology (Springer, 2026). He has received numerous awards including the Calcutta University Gold Medal and National Pfizer award. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology. He has regularly conducted Transplant Hepatology Courses as Course Director & has organized numerous National Liver meetings. He has been the Governing Council member of INASL. He has the distinction of being a Fellow of INASL, and Master of ISG. He is a member of task forces of INASL such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Alcoholic Liver Disease, MASLD & ALF. He has held several posts in International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) such as Member of Education Committee, Membership and Communication Committee and Infectious Disease SIG. He was the Vice-President of Liver Transplant Society of India (LTSI, 2021), and subsequently the President of LTSI (2025). He is currently the President-Elect of Indian National Association for the Study of Liver (INASL).
