Why this SIG, right now
Cholestatic and autoimmune liver diseases span a complex and evolving landscape. Practising clinicians need timely, evidence-grounded resources to navigate diagnosis, therapeutics, and long-term management with confidence.
The therapeutic options available for conditions such as primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and autoimmune hepatitis have expanded considerably in recent years. Staying current with emerging agents and integrating them appropriately into practice requires ongoing engagement with the evidence base.
Delayed diagnosis remains a significant contributor to disease progression and adverse outcomes in this patient population. Recognising early clinical, biochemical, and histological patterns enables timely intervention and can meaningfully alter the disease course.
Translating findings from mechanistic studies and clinical trials into day-to-day patient management requires active interpretation and peer discussion. This group provides a structured forum for clinicians to engage with emerging data and apply it within the realities of their practice.
Chair's Note
Cholestatic and autoimmune liver diseases remain underdiagnosed and undertreated, with real consequences for patients who present years into their disease course. This group exists to close that gap by connecting clinicians with current evidence, emerging therapies, and a community of peers committed to raising the standard of care.
