Cholestatic & Inherited Liver Disorders in Children

Prof. Binita M. Kamath, MBBChir, MRCP, MTR, is Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. An internationally recognized leader in pediatric hepatology, she specializes in cholestatic and inherited liver diseases, including Alagille syndrome, biliary atresia, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and other rare pediatric liver disorders. Dr. Kamath is a global authority on Alagille syndrome and established the international GALA (Global Alagille Alliance) registry, the world's largest database of patients with this condition, encompassing more than 1,700 patients from 90 centers across 35 countries. Her research spans genotype-phenotype relationships, disease natural history, stem cell-derived cholangiocyte models, and frailty and sarcopenia in pediatric liver disease. She has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and serves as an Associate Editor of Hepatology. Dr. Kamath has held leadership positions in NASPGHAN, AASLD, the Canadian Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and the Childhood Liver Disease Research Network (ChiLDReN). Widely recognized for excellence in research, education, and mentorship, she continues to shape the future of pediatric hepatology through clinical innovation, international collaboration, and physician training.
