Dr. Lalazar is the Director of Hepatology and Deputy Chief of Gastroenterology at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. He is a senior hepatologist with over 20 years of experience in academic medicine, clinical care, and translational liver research. Dr. Lalazar received his medical degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed his training in internal medicine and gastroenterology–hepatology at Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center, where he also served as a representative to the National Transplant Committee. He subsequently completed advanced research training as a Clinical Scholar at the Rockefeller University in New York, in the laboratory of Dr. Sanford Simon, where he developed novel mouse models and investigated mechanisms of resistance and therapeutic strategies in liver cancer. He has held faculty appointments at Weill Cornell Medical College and the Rockefller University and has been actively involved in international guideline development for metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease. Over the past four years, Dr. Lalazar has led the Hepatology Unit at Shaare Zedek, establishing a dedicated clinical trials program and a multidisciplinary hepatocellular carcinoma service in collaboration with GI oncology. Dr. Lalazar is a member of the Israeli, European, and American Associations for the Study of the Liver and currently serves as Chair of the Hepatocellular Carcinoma Special Interest Group of the Israeli Association for the Study of the Liver.
