Dr. G. V. Rao is one of India’s leading surgical gastroenterologists and serves as Director and Chief of Surgical Gastroenterology, GI Oncology, and Minimally Invasive Surgery at AIG Hospitals. A pioneer in advanced gastrointestinal surgery, he has played a key role in establishing AIG as a globally recognized center for complex digestive diseases, transplantation, and minimally invasive procedures. With decades of surgical experience, Dr. Rao specializes in complex hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery, advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures, esophageal surgery, and Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES). His innovations in minimally invasive, endoscopic, and transgastric surgical techniques have earned international recognition and contributed to improved patient outcomes. Dr. Rao trained at Osmania Medical College and Bangalore Medical College, with advanced training at internationally renowned institutions including St. Mark’s Hospital and King’s College London. An accomplished researcher, educator, and mentor, he has received numerous honors, including the Parliamentary Gold Medal and multiple international Best Paper awards.
